For my groomsmen gifts I bought Chiefs tickets to the Chargers game this year. That meant that for the first time in I-don't-know-why-it's-never-happened-before I was going to a NFL game with a bunch of good friends!
Saturday night everyone met at my house for some pre-football festivities. The party started with Transformers in HD-DVD. Earlier in the day I brought my big home theater system down from upstairs. Not only was this the first time I had heard my system in my new home theater, but I had never seen Transformers before. All I can say is "HOLY SHIT"! The stereo sounded amazing after I moved the sub (15 minutes into the movie- everyone looked at me like I was retarded). During one explosion I actually heard my first ever standing wave move through my house. For those of you with Bose sytems, a standing wave is when the bass manages to resonate your house just right and you can actually feel/hear the bass slowly sweep through the house. The only bad part of the whole experience was hearing my sub clip a couple of times (I want a new sub real bad). All in all it was awesome and I got some nice comments from my friends on the setup.
Next was Wii play time, which was thoroughly dominated by Guitar Hero III. I don't know what it is with that game but Courtney and I just love it to death. Most of my friends there also had a good time beating on the plastic axe. Eventually we decided to call it a night because we had to get up at the butt-crack of dawn for tailgating.
The next morning everyone got up and we headed out for Arrowhead. When we arrived we were dismayed to see that they hadn't opened the gates for some reason. We ended sitting in a line of parked cars for about 35 minutes until 8:30. Once we found a good spot to park, I immediately turned my attention to cooking two pounds of bacon (and drinking of course). It was so damn cold that there was a constant fog surrounding the food . Everyone kept adding layers of clothes and the temps continued to drop. Once the bacon appetizers were done I made some tasty breakfast burritos (eggs, bacon, sausage, hash browns and cheese) and everyone filled their bellies with warm food.
When it finally came to game time I was surprised to see all of the empty seats. It might have been the cold weather but Chiefs fans are not being very supportive this year. During defensive maneuvers only 1/3 of the crowd would stand up and yell ... it was very disappointing considering some of the guys there had never been to a Chiefs game. I won't waste much ink on the game (cause it sucked) but it was very cool when Jared Allen caught a touchdown pass. Jared is our best defensive player and he was our only player to score a touchdown (he is gonna bank on his next contract).
Towards the end of the game the stadium was so empty we walked down to the bottom level and stood 3 rows back from the 50 yard line. This was great because we could yell at the Hu-tard and he could actually hear us for once. Nate had a lot more to say though and pretty much called out every guy on offense. After the game I convinced the hydration specialist to throw me a Gatorade and we started our way home.
All in all it was a great weekend! If you would like to see more pics you can find them in my gallery at Brian-Anderson.net.
