Woofers and Carpet

Apart from an honorable mention of me staying up until 6 AM on Saturday, the two big things that happened this weekend were:

  1. The Basement finally got carpet!

  2. I finished building my new subs!

Basement Carpet Goes InThe basement carpet looks great and it finally allowed me to setup the theater chairs. Man I love those things. It's kind of hard to explain, but your body is always in the perfect position to view the screen, no matter how far back you are reclined (I think it is black magic). After something like 10 months of working in the basement I can't tell you how good it will feel to finally enjoy the fruits of my labor.

SubwooferThanks to me not having to work on Monday (that's another story) I was also able to finish both subs in time for a new carpet celebration movie that night. When I first set them up I could tell that Courtney wasn't too impressed. I explained that I need to tweak them considerably, and that they would loosen up over the next few weeks- I was really hoping I wasn't full of shit! That all changed about 20 minutes into the movie. There was a gun fight and we could actually feel the individual shock waves move through us ... we just looked at each other and laughed. I can't wait to play with them some more.

Peace out!

Project LFE

Rythmik DS1500 15 inch servo subThis weekend I started Project LFE! A couple of weeks ago I bought two Rythmik 15 inch servo subs to put in our home theater (go here to read why servo subs kick ass). I admit I went a little overboard, but I wanted a flat response down into the subsonic frequencies ... I hope my house doesn't implode! So far I have most of the panels cut (about 30) and I am waiting on a hole cutting jig to finish off the uh ... holes. On Saturday I spent 4 hours drawing up the plans and I was so happy to start letting the sawdust fly on Sunday and Monday. :)

More weekend stuff:

On Saturday Dusty and his trailer helped me transport 5 panels of MDF and then we went out to dinner with Dusty and Niki. After dinner we came back to our house and started drinking / hanging out. Now I'm not sure how it happened, but hours later Tony was there and we were all playing strip poker. Niki sucks a poker by the way.

Sunday morning I held Tony hostage until he finished helping me maneuver 4 x 8 sheets of MDF into progressively smaller pieces. Later in the day Stephen and Becky came over for the Packers/Giants game. They had not been over for awhile and it was nice to hang out- except for the fact that the Packers lost. :(

That's it, maybe I'll post some updates about the subs later this week.

Furniture Therapy

JaikSo, rather than sit inside and moan the passing of the coolest dog ever* I spent an enormous amount of time in the garage making furniture this weekend ... mainly a table and two speaker stands.

Check em out (click to enlarge)!

Table II Table I

New ChairsI ended up making that table because we found these really pimp chairs at Nebraska Furniture Mart but the table was ugleeee. I was pretty happy with the way it turned out.

Also, the basement is officially finished (with the exception of carpet, which is scheduled to occur on the 28th)! My ultimate goal was to have it done by the Super Bowl and it looks like I'm gonna make it ... go me!

*I wrote a blog post about my dog the day he died (explaining the whole situation) but I found it to be so long and depressing that I didn't post it! Maybe I'll post it some time in the near future.
