Sony Still Sucks

Sony Still SucksWell, it didn't take long for Courtney and I to become Sony's bitches. :(

After buying a HD-DVD player last year, and spending a considerable amount of time telling everyone that HD-DVD was better, we ordered a Blu-ray player this weekend. We didn't have much of a choice anymore- considering Toshiba's recent defeat and the fact that we are whores for HD movies (on the little big screen). On top of that, we didn't just get some player that would provide Sony with endless Blu-ray licensing fees, we bought a Playstation 3- so they can profit from games too. I did a ton of research and it just seemed silly to buy any other BD player. I'm sure the feelings of being a sheep and a whore will subside with time.

Yamaha RX-V663I also finally ordered a new receiver for downstairs, the Yamaha RX-V663. My old receiver didn't support HDMI or any of the new lossless audio formats. I also wanted something with dual zones for upstairs (for the deck) and the old Onkyo does have that feature. This new guy is loaded with options and I got an incredible deal over at (it was a pre-order phone-in-only offer: $400 shipped). They've already pulled the offer (they got too many takers I presume) ... I hope I don't have to wait forever.

Tony buying my bike turned out to be a very good thing for my home theater! I think I'm finally done too (in theory). :)

Other stuff:

  • I spent something like four hours last week equalizing my newly finished subs (along with adjusting phase, gains, crossovers, you name it). It sounds fucking phenomenal!

  • Nascar was a total snore on Sunday ... countless rain delays and an eventual postponement.

  • Finished the staining/polyurethane on my the stair railing ... going up tonight hopefully.

  • The Academy Awards weren't that good this year (with the two notable exceptions of No County winning and Jon Stewart).

I don't have anything big to blather about this week, so I'm just gonna post bullets:

  • Tony bought my motorcycle. I hope he pays in full before he kills himself.

  • Almost done painting my subwoofer boxes ... I'm getting real antsy to hook them back up now that I have my subwoofer EQ too.

  • Daytona 500 was disappointing ... Stewart was in the lead up until the last lap.

  • My fish tank is crystal clear right now (I spent something like 5 hours on it this weekend).

  • Went bowling on Saturday and actually mustered a 144. Some guy with fancy shoes and his own bowling ball only managed to beat me by 4 points.

  • I'm drooling over this crazy bi-ampable, hdmi upconverting, THX capable, pimptastic receiver right now. I can't actually afford it, so it's kind of like staring at a sports car in Car & Driver. :(

HBO Cancels Inside The NFL

Inside The NFLLast night I was eagerly anticipating Inside The NFL when I was kicked in the balls by HBO. I love the NFL Films style- how they use dramatic music, slow motion of people barely moving, and that voice-over guy they have alway used (you know the guy- he must be 100 by now). Anyways, I almost fell out of my chair when Bob Costas announced this was the last episode ... ever! Fuck Shit! That show has been running for 31 years now, how could they do that? I'm not big on the new breed of ESPN/Crossfire style shows- Inside The NFL is the only way I get my fix every week.

I'm seriously pissed about this but I don't know what to do. :(

Super Bowl!Other than the nut shot by HBO, Courtney and I had some friends over for the Super Bowl.. It was nice to show off the home theater and my new subs. I'm sure everyone thinks I'm fucking retarded for building two, but I love it!

I started primering the sub boxes yesterday, but the extreme cold is fucking me. I can barely keep the garage temp above 50 (with two space heaters) and the boxes are taking forever to dry. I'm tired of the cold this winter and I wish it would go away (for at least a year anyways).
